NAMI Rhode Island is a State Organization affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). We offer an array of education and training programs and services for individuals living with mental illness, family members, schools, providers, and the general public. These programs draw on the experience of individuals with mental illness and family members who have learned to live well with their illnesses and are eager to help others, as well as the expertise of mental health professionals and educators.
NAMI Rhode Island was founded in 1983 by family members of people with serious mental illness. This grassroots volunteer organization is dedicated to improving services for persons who are diagnosed with mental illness. Today, we support education, research and other efforts to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and prevent discrimination against individuals living with mental illness and their families. We envision a future in which there is greater understanding of these common health disorders and significant progress toward cures.
