The Community Connectors initiative works with the intention that all residents of Cranston feel connected to their community. We plan workshops and events on housing, racial equity, and history to increase conversations between neighbors and build understanding.

Objective 1: Promote race equity through expanding our education and celebrating our differences
Strategies: Race Equity+ Book Club, 'How We Teach History' event, Reading Across Rhode Island with the Cranston Public Library, Black History Month, All Aces
Impact Area(s): Expand race equity toolbox and fostering meaningful conversations, work on policy to promote race equity, and organizational/ systems change
Outcome/ Evaluation:

Race Equity+ Book Club: 5 meetings were held that brought 15 active participants, 95% satisfaction among participants

'How We Teach History' event: 10 participants and we handed out 50 copies of 'Caste'

Reading Across RI: 3 discussions were held with 20 active participants and we handed out 30 resource kits to the community

Black History Month: Resolution was passed to celebrate Black History Month in Cranston

All Aces: Results pending, surveys/ focus groups sent to staff and clients at 3 major Cranston organizations

Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) is proud to be the backbone agency for the Cranston Health Equity Zone. CCAP is one of Rhode Island’s largest organizations dedicated solely to fighting the war on poverty. We provide a wide spectrum of services and benefits that are designed to help those in immediate need and empower anyone desiring to become more self-sufficient.
